Stacy Senkbeil has joined Meighen Haddad LLP as an Associate after receiving her Call to the Bar on June 7, 2016. Sacy received her Bachelor of Arts in 2009 from Brandon University and graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba in 2015. Congratulations and welcome Stacy! 

Connor Smith joins Meighen Haddad as an Associate

Connor Smith received his Call to the Bar  on June 10, 2015 after articling with Meighen Haddad LLP. Connor received his Juris Doctor from the University of Alberta Law School in 2014. He joins the firm as an associate immediately and will commence a general practice in Brandon. We welcome Connor to Meighen Haddad and congratulate on him on his Call to the Bar. 

Josh Dyck joins Meighen Haddad as an Associate

We are pleased to welcome Josh Dyck to Meighen Haddad as an Associate and congratulate him on his call to the Bar on June 10, 2015.  Josh articled with the firm after receiving his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Manitoba Robson Hall School of Law in 2014. Meighen Haddad is pleased to welcome Stacy Senkbeil and Jason Stitt to the firm as articling students. 

Stacy is  graduate of Brandon University and the University of Manitoba Robson School of Law. She received her Juris Doctor degree in 2015.

Jason Stitt is also a graduate of Brandon University and the University of Manitoba Robson School of Law. He received his J.D. degree in 2015.

Bernie Rodrigue retires from Meighen Haddad

Bernard J. Rodrigue, a long time partner with Meighen Haddad LLP has retired from the practice of law effective January 2015. Bernie grew up in St. Boniface and attended law school at the U of M before being called to the Bar in 1973. Although he took a brief hiatus from Meighen Haddad in the 70s to return to Winnipeg, Bernie practiced with Meighen Haddad for almost forty years. We wish Bernie a long and well deserved retirement.  

Meighen Haddad adds four new Partners

As of January 1, 2015 Meighen Haddad has four new partners, Laura McDougald-Williams, Karla Dane, Patrick Sullivan and Bryan Webber. This brings the total number of partners at Meighen Haddad to ten.

Laura McDougald-Williams articled with Meighen Haddad starting in 2004 and joined the firm as an associate on her Call to the Bar in 2005. Laura practices full time out of our Souris Office.

Karla Dane joined Meighen Haddad in 2007 to commence articles and was called to the Bar in 2008. Karla has a solicitors and family law practice which she carries out full time in Brandon.

Patrick Sullivan articled with Meighen Haddad starting in 2009 and was called to the Bar in 2010. He carries out general practice in Brandon.

Bryan Webber came to Meighen Haddad to article in 2009 after leaving his former career as a teacher to go to law school. Bryan was called to the Bar in 2010 and undertakes a solicitors practice, dividing his time between Brandon and Souris.

The firm congratulates Laura, Karla, Patrick and Bryan on their achievement and welcomes them to the partnership. 

David Swayze appointed Manitoba Rep on the Federation of Law Societies

In October the Benchers of the Law Society of Manitoba appointed David Swayze as the Manitoba representative to the Council of the Federation of Law Societies for a three year term commencing in November. David was honoured to have been selected by the Benchers to represent Manitoba at the national level. The Federation of Law Societies of Canada is an organization made up of representatives from each law society in Canada and has an important role developing national standards for admissions, competency, and a Model Code of Professional Responsibility. The Federation is also responsible for a national mobility agreement permitting lawyers to easily transfer between jurisdictions.

David Swayze elected President of the Law Society of Manitoba

On June 13th David Swayze was elected the President of the Law Society of Manitoba for a one year term. David has been a Bencher representing the Western Judicial District since 2008 and served as Vice-President of the Law Society in 2012-2013. David is only the second lawyer from Meighen Haddad to be President of the Law Society of Manitoba, the previous being William Stordy when the firm was then known as Stordy Alder and Mitchell. 

Meighen Haddad Supports FCC Drive Away Hunger

In a friendly competition with BDO Dunwoody LLP's Brandon office, Meighen Haddad raised over $7000 in cash and food donations as part of the FCC Drive Away Hunger food drive in October 2012. Between the two offices, over $12,000 was raised which will be donated to Samaritan House, a local food bank. 

David Swayze appointed Vice-President of the Law Society of Manitoba

David Swayze has been appointed Vice-President of the Law Society of Manitoba for a one year term. David has been a bencher of the Law Society, one of two representing the Western Judicial District, since 2008 and was elected Vice-President at a vote of the Benchers in April, assuming the role on May 24. The Law Society of Manitoba is responsible for protection of the public in governing the legal profession in Manitoba. The Law Society ensures that all Manitoba lawyers represent the public faithfully, competently, honestly, and to the highest standard. David joins his fellow bencher from the Western Judicial District and President of the Law Society, Jack Cram at the executive table, marking the first time in Manitoba history that both executive officer positions have been held by benchers from the Western Judicial District, and from outside of Winnipeg. 

Karla Dane re-elected to Brandon Chamber of Commerce

Karla Dane has been re-elected a director of the Brandon Chamber of Commerce, continuing a long tradition of Meighen Haddad lawyers sitting on the board of directors for the Brandon Chamber of Commerce. Meighen Haddad and its predecessor firms has been a member of the Brandon Chamber of Commerce, virtually since its founding in the late 1800s and has always supported the growth of business in Brandon and area. Karla is an associate with the firm and carries on a general practice with a focus on real estate, wills, estates and family law out of the Brandon office.  

Laura McDougald-Williams Named Oustanding Young Farmer

Laura McDougald-Williams and her husband Dustin Williams were named the 2012 Outstanding Young Farmers at an event held at the Elkhorn Resort and Conference Centre on February 10. Laura and Dustin farm near Souris. When not farming, Laura practices law in our Souris Office handling wills, estates, farm business and real estate matters. Congratulations to Laura and Dustin!

Will and the Last Testaments Return for Farewell Concert

Wheatstock 2010 champions, Will and the Last Testaments returned for a farewell gig at Wheatstock 2011 on October 20, 2011. Giving yet another one of their classic current event inspired shows, Will and the Last Testaments finished with a tribute to the late great Jimmy Hendrix performed by skinny red tights clad Patrick Sullivan. Meighen Haddad has been a long time supporter of the Brandon and Area Community Foundation and has been proud to participate in Wheatstock since its inception.

Will and the Last Testaments (Blair Filyk, Derek Cullen, Patrick Sullivan) won the best band competition at the annual Wheatstock battle of the bands in support of the Brandon and Area Community Foundation.
This was the band’s third appearance and Will (Blair Filyk) told the press after upon receiving the award that “Victory was long overdue.”
